Journalist tipped for countryside job

ELINOR GOODMAN, political editor of Channel 4 News, is tipped to get the job of chairman of the Countryside Commission.

The appointment looks set to spark political controversy.

Ms Goodman is married to an economic adviser to Tony Blair in the Downing Street policy unit.

She is also a friend of Peter Mandelson, the controversial former cabinet minister.

Her appointment is likely to revive charges of cronyism.
