LIQUIDATORS have confirmed that Lanark-based auctioneers Lawrie and Symington has bought the Biggar abattoir owned by Southbraid, which traded as Scottish Border Foods.
The abattoir, which employed 54 staff, went into liquidation on Sept 24. It was primarily involved in supplying sheep carcasses to customers in the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Portugal. Blair Nimmo of KPMG Corporate Recovery, which handled the liquidation and subsequent sale of the abattoir, welcomed Lawrie and Symingtons diversification into the meat trade.
"The Biggar abattoir is a key facility within the livestock trade and it is important that it was sold to a buyer with plans to revitalise and develop the business," Mr Nimmo said. *
