Limousin spirit shines through

THREE lives and a wealth of good breeding combined to produce the days most spirited bidding at the sale of unhaltered Limousin females at Carlisle.

Wilson Haville, a 1992-bred third calver, was offered with a smart December-born bull calf at foot by the successful sire Daim and was AId in March to Epatant.

Haville, consigned by Don Williams, Shifnal, Shropshire, was typical of the quality females sired by Mereside Crackerjack. She was out of a cow by Uplands Aubert and bought by M Rutherford, Co Down, at 3500gns.

Cumbria breeder Johnny Thompsons maiden heifer Hartside Lavinia made 2000gns to W F Cruickshank, Grantown-on-Spey. She was by the Broadmeadows Tombola son Hartside Hensingham and had a Beef Value of +48.

Scropton, Derby, buyer Platts took several lots, paying 1950gns for Brereton Hesta, a Hydesville Delta sired third calver from Cheshire breeder J F Longman. She was sold with an April-born bull calf at foot.

AVERAGES: 31 cows £1181; 33 heifers £1130 and 19 maiden heifers £916. (Harrison and Hetherington)n
