Livestock enlisted for church service

FARM animals shared the pews with more traditional worshippers at a church service held yesterday to pray for the farming industrys survival.

Rogation Sunday services normally celebrate the sowing of crops, but instead the demise of family farms was remembered at St Peters Church in North Wootton, Somerset.

The closure of local farming businesses which had existed for generations had created major economic hardship, said Reverend Nigel Done.

Rev Done used to be an environmental consultant for the Ministry of Agriculture.
