Loader quartet added to New Holland range

By Andy Collings

NEW Holland has added four new skid steer loaders to its range – the LS140, 160,170 and 180 models – which are designed to meet the needs of the 600kg to 1100kg lift sector.

All models feature the manufacturers "Super Boom" loader arm, which is claimed to offer increased versatility, stability and safety.

In operation the booms geometry is such that forward reach is increased as the load is raised. This enables the loader to be used for tipping loads into high-sided lorries without use of ramps, says New Holland.

As the load is raised, Super Boom loader arms move forward but pivot at the same central point – an arrangement which is claimed to maintain stability throughout the lifting arc.

Super Boom loader arms also have a low pivot point allowing good side and rear visibility.

For the skid steer itself, a longer than normal wheelbase acts as an aid to stability.

When unladen, LS models have a weight distribution of 65% over the rear axle.

With a full load on the arms this transfers to 65% over the front axle. This results in loaded machines being able to pivot around the front axle and turn within their own length.

Power for the 140 model is supplied by a 3-cyl engine rated at 32hp, the 160 and 170 have 4-cyl blocks rated at 42hp and 52hp respectively, while the range topping 180 is said to have a 3-cyl, 67hp engine. &#42
