Local support for Holsteins
MANY of the West Countrys most successful cow families were behind Messrs Hare and Sons Henceford Holstein herd and so it was no surprise to see local buyers investing in proven bloodlines when the herd was dispersed to a top price of 2000gns last week.
A big crowd levelled the cows at £757, calved heifers at £996 and served heifers a creditable £695.
The sale at Black Dog, near Crediton, produced the top price for a member of one of the more recently established families. Shalama Quality Roxy ET PI, is a VG-classified third calver by Barnkamper Quality and out of Hunday Jet Roxy.
She was sold fresh after a 9657kg lactation with her second and heads for Cornwall. Her daughter, the served heifer Henceford Windsor Roxy, made the days second highest price of 1700gns paid by Somerset buyer N Parker. She is by Ri-Mark Aerostar Windsor and was inseminated in January to Comestar Stormatic.
The calved heifers, admired for their udder quality, met a tremendous trade selling to 1180gns for Henceford Ruby 57th. This Wintersell Stefan daughter is out of a 10,286kg Jydens Willow dam and was bought by Dorset dairy farmers A G and D S Selway (Greenslade Taylor Hunt). *
