Lodging cost £110m

LODGING cost UK cereal growers £110m last year, says plant growth regulator supplier BASF. It assumed 15% lodging in wheat and 30% lodging in barley, with reduced yield, missed quality premiums and additional harvesting and drying costs adding up to £197/ha and £200/ha respectively. By contrast a standard pgr programme costs £30/ha, it says. Lush crops mean risks are higher this year, it adds. n
