Luton Hoo on market once more

LUTON HOO, designed by Robert Adam and considered to be one of the finest country houses in England, has just been launched by Knight Frank.

The 1060-acre Beds estate was purchased by Elite Hotels in 1998 with an eye to gaining planning consent for a hotel and leisure development, but the group has now apparently decided to concentrate on its existing hotel portfolio.

According to agent James Crawford, the planning process is nearly complete, subject to a section 106 agreement, and he claims the property is in an ideal position to satisfy the growing demand for quality accommodation outside London.

Private residence?

However, even with an asking price in excess of £16m, he reckons somebody could buy it with an eye to creating a prestigious private residence. "We have had interest from individuals as well as hotel chains."

Almost 550 acres of commercial farmland are featured in the sale. Currently let under three farm business tenancies the annual income is £41,250. &#42
