Lyon business faces animal cruelty charges
GEORGE Lyon, a front-runner for the presidency of the National Farmers Union of Scotland, will face animal cruelty charges next Monday.
Mr Lyon has disclosed that a procurator fiscal will bring a case against his business, A&K Farms, on Monday for an alleged breach of animal welfare rules.
The allegation involves a small number of cast ewes which were taken from A&K Farms, Bute, to Stirling market by a member staff, not Mr Lyon personally.
A “continuation without plea” will be lodged because of the short notice.
Mr Lyon said he was disappointed the case was going ahead. Scottish Office veterinary staff had given his business a complete clean bill of health, he said.
