MAFF sets up swine fever helpline
By FWi staff
THE Ministry of Agriculture has introduced a new helpline for farmers caught up in the swine fever crisis in East Anglia.
The helpline – 08702 414215 – opened at the ministrys Bury St Edmunds office on Monday.
It will be manned from 8.30am-6.30pm on weekdays and from 9am-4pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
The helpline will provide information on any matters relating to the disease, including movement restrictions and progress with blood tests, a MAFF spokeswoman said.
On Friday afternoon, a second movement restriction area was lifted.
The area in South Norfolk had been designated a restriction area on 18 September around premises which received pigs from a unit that had the disease.
All pigs on the suspect premises were slaughtered and samples were tested for swine fever, but the results were negative.
