MAFF to launch internet hub
By FWi staff
THE Ministry of Agricultures new rural internet portal is the focus of a display on its stand at the Royal Smithfield Show at Earls Court.
The aim of the portal is to bring together all the information flowing from MAFF, other government departments and agencies regarding the countryside.
It is expected to be launched on the internet next spring.
A MAFF statement said the ministry is committed to harnessing e-business to improve the way it delivers its services to customers.
The government is pressing ahead with plans that will allow farmers to make subsidy claims over the internet.
A pilot study, which involved farmers in East Anglia, will be extended next year to allow more producers to apply for subsidy using computers.
