MAFF widens search for MLC chief
By FWi staff
MAFF is having to cast its net wider in its search for a new chairman of the Meat and Livestock Commission.
It was announced on Friday (24 March) that current chairman Don Curry is now staying until the end of the year to assist in recruiting his successor.
Mr Curry, who became chairman in April 1994, and was re-appointed in 1997, had been expected to stand down this month when his term of tenure ended.
A MAFF spokesman said the search was being widened to ensure the right person was found to succeed Mr Curry.
“Ministers took note of the candidates who came forward but felt, given the importance of the job, they should see a wider field before taking their final decision.”
He said the new chairman should be in place by the end of the year.
