Marque drops price by 0.85ppl

MILK Marque has dropped the standard litre price for May by 0.85p following its recent closed-door selling process, when 90% of the milk was sold.
The farmer-owned co-operative claims that the strong Pound and plummeting dairy markets have forced down the market price for milk, with the result that Milk Marque will be paying members just 18ppl in May.
Managing director Paul Beswick said that the coming months would be very difficult for every dairy farmer but, by working together in Milk Marque, members would have a business that can make a difference in what is an extremely difficult marketplace. |

“Currency and support prices are the major drives for milk prices in this country,” said Mr Beswick
“Since the start of the year, both have been working against the whole of the UK farming industry with disastrous effects,” he added.
In the dairy sector, the effect of the strong Pound has driven down support prices by the equivalent of more than 1.3ppl. At the same time, Mr Beswick said that market prices for butter and cheese have plummeted.
