MBM rules not broken
MAFF has found only one farmer in possession of feed containing meat and bonemeal since Aug 1, 1996.
Junior farm minister, Jeff Rooker, said the feed was not fed to livestock and had been safely disposed of. In a second incident a farmer was found to have been storing mammalian MBM in a farm store with other feed ingredients. It was disposed of in landfill. "Thorough sampling showed no evidence that cross-contamination had occurred, and the premises were not part of a livestock enterprise," said Mr Rooker.
He added that the state veterinary service had found no evidence of a breach in control rules at feed mills or on farm feed mixers. *
