Melchett’s crops damaged by fire
LORD MELCHETT, the executive director of Greenpeace, has had his organic farm damaged by fire a week after he led an attack on a field of genetically modified (GM) maize.
A faulty hay baler is believed to have cause the fire, which enveloped 4.8ha (12 acres) of half-cut corn at Lord Melchetts 303ha (750 acre) Courtyard Farm, at Ringstead, Norwich.
Lord Melchett is currently on holiday with his family in Tanzania, but correspondence about the GM debate features prominently again in The Independent.
