Mobile potato washer for processing sector
Mobile potato washer for processing sector
A MOBILE washer built for potato growers supplying processing markets is the latest addition to Tong Engineerings machinery range.
Equipped with a washing barrel, the machine achieves workrates of up to 30t/hour and low running costs through its ability to recycle used water, claims Tong.
The washer is designed to cope with different amounts of soil on the crop using a facility that enables flow of potatoes and spray pressure to be varied.
After a clod and stone separation system, potatoes are washed with water from a 6cu m tank before being passed over an inspection table for up to eight people.
Mud collected in the bottom of the machine is removed by an auger and discharged through a chute into a skip or trailer.
Operation of the auger can be timed automatically according to the level of dirt on the potatoes, says Tong.
Supplied with an integral diesel powered generator, the mobile washer can be transported on a standard articulated lorry trailer. Price of the machine is about £60,000. *
