More species than tits & robins to visit your sites
More species than tits & robins to visit your sites
WHEN we talk of nest boxes for birds, we invariably have visions of blue and great tits, robins or perhaps a wren occupying our carefully-created bird home. This book shows that this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the species that will take to artificial nest sites.
It would seem that whatever the bird is, even if it is a cavity-nester, there is no reason why it could not be tempted to use a box. For instance, if you have tree-creepers, there is a special wedge-shaped box with a side rather than a front entrance that is ideal for this species.
Hole, open-fronted and chimney box nesters are covered in detail and you are informed when, where and how to hang your box. One good tip: to make your boxes last, use galvanised nails or brass screws as these will not rust. ME
