MPs blame ministry for floods
By FWi staff
THE Ministry of Agriculture is to blame for floods which ravaged Britain this autumn, a cross-party group of MPs has ruled.
A Commons environment select committee said MAFF failed to impose rules on farmers which would have prevented flooding, reports The Guardian.
The MPs issued a grave condemnation of ministers for failing to implement an EU directive requiring flood risk to be assessed if farmers wish to cultivate grassland.
MAFF admitted the admitted the rules should have been imposed and pledged to tackle this in a new year consultation paper.
