MPs probe DEFRA
THE Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee is to hold an inquiry into the role of DEFRA, one year after the departments creation.
The cross-party committee will examine whether the vision for the department set out by DEFRA secretary Margaret Beckett is appropriate and how much progress has been made towards it.
The objectives the department has set itself in pursing the "rural affairs" agenda will also be examined. Whether DEFRA has represented rural areas effectively in policy dealt with by other departments will also be assessed. *
