Multi-dosing semen

A NEW multi-dose semen kit means producers will no longer need to spend time packing boar semen into individual doses.

Breeding equipment company Rotech has developed a Multisem multi-doser which allows a controlled dose of semen to be delivered at the point of insemination.

The equipment can hold five litres of semen – enough for 60 doses – and is said to give a saving of £8-£10 over 60 single doses. An insulated carry bag keeps semen at the correct temperature.

Its delivery system is fitted with a non-return valve to prevent semen back-flowing from a sow in to the pack and avoid cross- contamination between sows. Either stud or home-collected semen can be used. &#42
