THERES a special prize for the winner of our Christmas competition – sponsored by Murex Welding Products. Its the Murex Tradesmig 251 single-phase 240 volt MIG composite welding machine, priced at £1060 + VAT.
Part of the recently upgraded Tradesmig line-up, the TM251 delivers a cracking 250A and is the biggest single-phase set the company offers. Key points for farm use include the ability to weld mild and stainless steels plus aluminium and the potential between-site mobility that comes from 240V operation.
The new Murex will join a very wide range of material thicknesses and has 12 voltage settings for fine tuning. Theres also logarithmic wire speed control to make it easier to find good welding conditions low in the output range. Other plus points are timers for spot/stitch welding and potentially durable copper transformer windings.
A purpose-designed Electrolux motor powers the wire feed mechanism, promising a consistent wire feed – the core of good MIG/MAG work. The casing has a handy tool tray built into the lid so your mask, wire cutters and anti-spatter can wont fall off; and for work in really awkward places the torch neck can be turned relative to the handle. For the really finicky operator, theres the option of adding digital metering to keep close tabs on voltage and current.
