DISUSED diamond mines are providing the ideal location for mushroom farms in South Africa, reports the Financial Times.
Workers harvest pale oyster mushrooms grown in plastic wrapped straw along a kilometre of moist, warm water tunnels at Kimberley, Northern Cape.
Producers Diamond Mushrooms Farm can produce 6t of mushrooms a month turning over 5,800 a month and needs no expensive equipment for cultivation.
