NCA proposes practical test

A SIMPLE and practical trial to establish whether TB could be passed from badgers to cattle has been proposed by the National Cattle Association in its response to the Krebs report.

The association said that a group of uninfected cattle could be held with a group of infected badgers in a confined area. "Then at least we could prove once and for all that infection is possible, and all following trials could work from this base," said NCA secretary, Kim Brake.

The NCA also called for the research to be carried out immediately so that a fast and effective badger control programme could be implemented.
