New pig vaccine
A SINGLE dose version of Stellamune Mycloplasma vaccine for enzootic pneumonia in pigs has been launched by Pfizer Animal Health.
Stellamune Once can be used in pigs from three weeks of age and is said to provide immunity for 23 weeks, protecting throughout finishing, says the companys vet Lesley Peek.
"The product provides economic benefits due to improved pig growth rates and performance and in its convenient one-shot form, reduces vaccination time and handling of pigs," she adds.
Trials on commercial finishing units are said to show vaccinated pigs achieving a 23g/day improvement in daily liveweight gain and 49% fewer lung lesions at slaughter, compared with non-vaccinated animals. *
