New site planned for Thirsk Auction
STAFF at Thirsk Auction Mart, in North Yorkshire, are crossing their fingers that planning approval will be granted to move the mart premises to a new location on the edge of town.
The mart has the option to buy an 8ha (20-acre) site south of the town bypass at its junction with the A19 York road. But it is waiting for permission from Hambleton district council.
For the scheme to go ahead, the council will also have to approve a housing redevelopment scheme to build about 150 homes on the existing market site.
"Our premises are farfrom ideal at the moment, both in location and facilities,"says mart manager, Rodney Cordingley. *
