New suit of clothes for big Challengers
New suit of clothes for big Challengers
CATERPILLAR has updated its big hp Challengers, sold throughout Europe in the green Claas livery. Not directly relevant to the average farmer, maybe, but these machines have established a loyal following, especially in the UK and increasingly in eastern Europe.
The existing 65D (300hp), 75D (330hp) and 85D (370hp) models have been replaced with the E Series. Power ratings have gone up slightly, with the 65E mustering 310hp, the 75E 340hp, the 85E 375hp and a new model, the 95E, registering 410hp on the power scale. The two bigger models also have a different Cat 3176 engine.
Main changes are in styling – the old angular looks have been replaced with the rounded bonnets of the smaller 35, 45 and 55 machines. The cabs have also been updated, with a new drivers seat and passenger seat provided. Otherwise, the mechanicals are much the same as before.
The machines go on sale in Germany in May 98 with prices set at £120,000 upwards for the 310hp model. UK prices have yet to be finalised.n
