NEWCOMERS IN PURSUIT OF TOP RANKING SIRE

EASTLAND Festival maintains his position with a secure £7 PLI lead, in the latest PLI bull ranking released in May, but he is joined by many newcomers to the top 20.

However, both he and previous second place sire, Elite Mountain Donor, suffer a fall in PLI and PIN. Festival previously had a PLI of £83 and Donor £79, but both now have higher reliability for production, increasing by 8%, at 82% and 77% respectively.

Celsius son, Festival now has 99 daughters in 84 herds, compared with just 41 in 32 herds in February. He offers 1011kg of milk, 29.5kg fat (-0.07) and 31.5kg protein (-0.01).

The first newcomer in the ranking is Delta Largo in second position. He offers £74 PIN and £69 PLI, with 737kg milk, 28.1kg (0.03%) fat and 27.5kg (0.04%) protein.

Third position is also held by a newcomer, Woudhoeve Russel. He is a bull with a high emphasis on improving milk constituent percentages, his production proof shows 224kg milk, 24.2kg (0.22) fat and 22.2kg (0.20) protein.

Fourth place sire Jocko Besne has improved his PIN and PLI values from £63 and £65, respectively in February to move up the ranking. He now has a reliability score of 78%.

New Zealand bulls Collins Royal Hugo and Etazon Dalton take fifth and sixth position, despite their lack of type merit conversions.

Also new to the top 20 are Delta Gerris, again from New Zealand, Delta Webster – Holland – and Ricecrest Marshall from the US. &#42
