NI farmer sits on gold mine

SEAN BROGAN, a Northern Ireland farmer, is hoping to develop an alternative business to sheep rearing soon – gold mining.

The Financial Times reports from his hill farm in the Sperrin mountains which contains “one of Europes best small gold deposits”.

Mr Brogan is currently prevented from exploiting the gold field because of the security restrictions on the use of explosives.

But he hopes to obtain a licence to use explosives once a political settlement in the Province is made.
