No guarantees from Scottish Milk

SCOTTISH MILK has warned processors not to expect milk supplies to be guaranteed indefinitely at todays prices.

John Duncan, the companys chairman and chief executive, is forecasting a large number of producers leaving the industry.

He was speaking at the companys annual meeting at Erskine against the background of the report by the Competition Commission on Milk Marque.

Since the report was published earlier this month, it has created an expectation that milk prices will fall.

The co-op asked members for permission to raise funds to further develop its processing activities.

Members resisted a call for an increase in the remuneration paid to directors – currently £8400.
