Norfolk grower wins top edible pulse award
TOP edible pulse grower for 1998 is Alec Hurn of Marsh Farm, Clenchwarton, Kings Lynn, Norfolk, with a sample of Princess marrowfat peas entered by Dunns (Long Sutton).
Over 120 entries in categories for marrowfat peas, round peas and beans vied for top honours. Finalist samples were processed or canned and the cooked products assessed for texture, flavour and visual appearance by the Quality Assurance department of HL Foods at Long Sutton, Lincs.
Class winners were J & ME Applewhite, The Beeches, Hammeringham, Horncastle, Lincs, with a sample of Flare small blue peas entered by Dunns (Long Sutton) and Herbert & Son (Farmers), Marshland St James, Wisbech, Cambs, with a sample of Victor beans entered by Saxon Agriculture. *
