North Yorks moors chief offers help
THEnew chief executive of the North York Moors National Park told local farmers this week that he would do all he could to help them diversify.
Andy Wilson said farm diversification schemes should be encouraged in the park – and revealed that his officers are to produce new planning guidance on the issue.
"We cant stand by and watch farming decline, he said. "We cant simply react to what farmers want to do. We need to be more pro-active to ensure that their applications achieve the best possible outcome.
"We need to ensure that our planning policy and practice is contributing positively to the achievement of our diversification aims."
Mr Wilson said that it was important for park officers to give advice to farming families whenever possible because it could stimulate good ideas. *
