Novartis in GM crop breakthrough
NOVARTIS, the Swiss biotechnology concern, claims to have made a breakthrough in genetic-modification crop technology.
It has developed a sugar-based marker gene, replacing the need to use antibiotic-resistant genes taken from bacteria.
The new marker gene will be used in a wide range of crops.
