Oakes buys up

John Wilder

ONE of New Hollands principle dealers in the south of England, Oakes Bros of Hungerford, has acquired the agricultural business of Wallingford, Oxon-based John Wilder (Agricultural) Ltd.

The sale includes retail premises in Wallingford and Reading, which are now being operated as Oakes branches; Oakes has also taken on all Wilder staff. But the deal does not include the company itself; managing director John Wilder intends to continue running the firms engineering and professional grasscare divisions.

The acquisition substantially increases the Oakes Bros trading area which now covers western Hants, part of east Wilts, the whole of Berkshire and parts of Surrey and southern Oxfordshire. The new sites join existing branches at Wantage and Hungerford in Berkshire, and Stockbridge in Hants.

Because of the companys tie-up with Matbro, Wilders JCB franchise lapses with the deal. But Oakes is to provide parts and service back-up in association with Berkeley JCB.n
