Off-label pea plan

PEA growers should face fewer problems from downy mildew next year thanks to a last minute specific off-label approval secured by the HDC.

Cool, wet conditions last spring led to problems with existing products, says the HDC. Crops in Lincs and Sussex were worst hit.

In conjunction with the HRI and PGRO, it set out to secure an alternative treatment for this autumn. Aliette (fosetyl-aluminium) was found to be effective against the disease, coming from a different fungicide group which has not yet encountered resistance.

Growers wanting to protect pea seed with Aliette can now do so once they have acquired a copy of Off Label Approval SOLA 2390/97 from the HDC (01732 848383).
