Old-crop wheat prices tumble HGCA

  • Old-crop delivered feed wheat prices tumbled between 1 and 2/t last week in line with falls in wheat futures prices. New-crop prices were largely unchanged on the week.
  • The tight supply situation seen over the last fortnight began to ease in the first half of last week as merchants began to release supplies bought over recent weeks.
  • Further price pressure was added to cereal prices as the Euro traded below 61p for most of last week. While this level is sustained, UK wheat prices have limited opportunity to strengthen as export competitivity becomes important.
  • With the old-crop barley exports at a virtual standstill, attention is turning to new-crop. Harvest barley prices traded at a 1/t premium to harvest wheat prices.
