Old trick reduces pesticide use
THE Horticultural Development Council (HDC) is considering resorting to an old gardeners trick to cut pesticide use.
Gardeners often grow onions and carrots alongside each other, with the smell of onions acting as a deterrent to carrot root fly.
Now the HDC is to spend £134,000 over the next three years to find out what could be used to help brassica crops resist the attacks of flea beetles.
