Oldest internet portal for sale

FARMING Online, Britains oldest farm internet portal, is up for sale after parent company FOL Networks said it wanted to concentrate on developing internet technology for the agribusiness sector.

According to director, Jonathan Jackson, the site will be moving into profit this autumn, if present subscription sales and advertising revenue are maintained.

Accountant Price Waterhouse Coopers, which is handling the sale, hopes to get a "seven figure" sum for the business, but a spokesman noted the eventual price would be determined by the market.

Mr Jackson does not rule out a bid for the business from among the 30,000 registered Farming Online members. "It could easily become a farmer-controlled information service," he said. &#42
