Only one not sold

OF the 170 head of cattle entered for the Western Holstein Clubs latest sale, only one remained unsold. But too many poor quality heifers impacted on the average which saw 109 Friesian heifers at £667.

Vendors D and E Trice from Leamington, Warks, collected the top price when their Leamington Storm Tress 3 was taken at 900gns by AR Cox and Sons, Stafford. Calved three weeks ago, this Maughlin Storm daughter is out of a Valiant Rockie dam.

D Buckley and Co from Buxton, Derbys, sold their calved heifer Sitlow Astre Electric 3rd at 860gns to Shutt and Mansell, Newport, Shropshire, and the champion – Matlock, Derbys dairy farmers AA and BR Foxs Copywood Counselor Honeybee – realised 850gns to Temple and Son, Fakenham.

Volume buyers, Mr Salt from Stoke-on-Trent took 13 head and Kath Moody 14 cattle for her Radleygreen herd, Essex.
