OPs back sooner?

ORGANOPHOSPHATE manufacturers are hoping to persuade the government to agree to interim measures that will allow OP dips back onto the market before the autumn.

With farmers facing a growing scab problem, industry representatives will argue that temporary arrangements should be brought in.

Officials from the National Office of Animal Health, the manufacturers trade body, will make a formal presentation to the Veterinary Products Committee on May 18.

"We are looking for the lifting of the suspension with interim arrangements for autumn 2000," said NOAH director Roger Cook.

Mr Cook said it was impossible to expand on details of the proposals because it was a formal legal process.
