Organic abattoir

THE Soil Association and the Development Board for Rural Wales are jointly funding a pilot project at the Tregaron abattoir, Aberwystyth, to certify the first approved organic abattoir in Wales.

The pilot project will monitor the benefits of an organically approved abattoir over a three-year period, and will assess the impact of a specialist abattoir provision on local organic farmers.

Geraint Davies, DBRW development director, said the study was a logical progression of an organic beef and sheep research project at ADAS Pwllpeiran.n
