AVAILABLE on an initial 10-year farm business tenancy with a rent review every three years a dairy farm offers the opportunity for a new tenant to take up the mantle following the retirement of the existing one.
However, the landlord of Girt Farm, the Ilchester Estate, Dorset, is keen for the holding to be converted into an organic dairy production holding. And with conversion to organic production likely to take up to three years the estate will consider some reduction in rent during the change over period.
The farm includes 200 acres of pasture at Evershot, between Yeovil and Dorchester.
To be let from Michaelmas 1998 by Charles Sweeney, FPD Savills handling negotiations says: "I expect a wide range of rental proposals from as little as £50/acre to over £100/acre. "
But the successful candidate will not necessarily be the highest tender."
