A NEW conventional oilseed rape, said to have exceptional resistance to light leaf spot, is on offer from Nickerson.

Ontario, a high-yielding Recommended List candidate for 2003, also resists well.

Recent warm wet winters have seen light leaf spot, typically a northern problem, increasing in the south, says the firms breeder Jo Bowman. The disease can be well controlled with fungicides, but bad weather in the critical spray window last spring meant many crop were untreated, he says. &#42

"Using a highly resistant variety like Ontario will offer good insurance in this type of situation."
