OSRsulphur advised

MANY advisers are still paying scant attention to the sulphur needs of average oilseed rape crops, let alone those with 5t/ha (2t/acre) yield potential.

That is the warning from Liz Williams, CPB Twyfords head of oilseeds.

Leaching and the inability of waterlogged crops to dredge up S reserves from depth meant many potentially high yielding crops performed poorly last season, she notes.

"Hybrids that start to grow away early need an initial amount of S and then a steady supply from stem extension onwards."

&#8226 ADAS recommends that 30kg/ha of S be applied in early spring to all rape crops on soils where deficiency symptoms have been seen or confirmed by analysis. &#42
