Paper demands more organic food

ORGANIC production in Britain should be increased 20%in the next 10 years, claims The Guardian.

This switch in agricultural production is set out in the newspapers vision for what the Labour government should do if it is re-elected.

It claims Britain can barely compete in todays world markets, and is forced to import huge quantities of organic food.

The the Ministry of Agriculture has failed to respond to the public mood, claims the paper.

Farmers should concentrate on producing high-quality foodstuffs, and increase organic production by a fifth, it says.

The Labour government is perceived to be too close to the genetically modified industry and is not listening to consumer concerns, it adds.

The government should review its policies, and announce a two-year moratorium on further plantings while evidence is reviewed.
