Phenomenal trade at Simmental show

A NEW spring show and sale of Simmental cattle held at Hereford market last week saw a flying trade, with several new buyers looking for bulls to sire suckler herd replacements.

"A phenomenal trade," declared Simmental society secretary David Gaunt. "Several buyers said they needed to change their suckler cow replacement policy. They want it simpler and safer."

Top call of 3800gns came from the Rt Hon Robert Willis, Glos to claim Terry Fords Shebdon Frosty, a Brinkton Bonzo son from his herd at Eccleshall, Staffs.

Somerset breeder David Barkers Heywood Fanfare, junior champion at last years Royal Show, was one of two bulls to make 3600gns. He is by Sacombe Wishfull Thinking and has a Beef Value of 47. Buyers &#42 and D Rudge, Hereford will use him on suckler cows.

Michael Mercer, who runs 600 Simmental-cross suckler cows at Bodenham, Hereford paid 3600gns for P J and L A Renshaws Dovefields Francis, a Gretna House Supersonic son from their herd in Derbyshire.

Mr Mercer also paid 3000gns for Glos vendor G T Van Der Guchts Deerhusrt Grandee, sired by Brinkton Winchester.

Buying his first Simmental was E M Lewis, Abergavenny who paid 3200gns for Crackley Flash from Messrs Booth and Bell.
