Phone help on wages
EMPLOYERS and workers unsure of how the National Minimum Wage works in line with the Agricultural Wages Order can phone a MAFF helpline with any queries.
The National Minimum Wage Act came into effect on Apr 1. The agricultural minimum wage from that date guarantees casuals a minimum of £3.60 an hour and the adult workers basic rate entitlement is £4.26 an hour.
There are also booklets and guides explaining the NMW and employment tribunal process. The helpline is open from 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, with an answer phone for messages out of hours and at weekends. Calls to the helpline on 0845-0000134 will be charged at local rates.
