PIG BUILDING THAT BECAME A CHILDRENS NURSERY

cost of conversion

CHARLIE and Jane Clive have a 32ha (80-acre) fruit farm near Upton-upon-Severn, Worcs growing mainly apples, plums, pears, strawberries, raspberries and redcurrants. Worried about the farms earning power in the future, they decided to diversify by turning an old pig building into a childrens nursery. Gaining a grant involved putting a 50-page project plan together, a job that took 2-3 months to do. Total cost of converting the building was £160,000 and the grant was £64,000. The nursery opened in October 2001 and they now employ six full-time staff and seven part-timers. Numbers of children have been better than expected and they say they are well on the way to reaching full capacity.
