Pig plague returns to Malaysia
ALMOST 5000 pigs are set to be shot on the Malaysian island of Borneo in an attempt to wipe out a deadly virus which last year killed more than 100 people.
The Nipah virus – passed from pigs to humans via bodily fluids – has now resurfaced in two Malaysian states, reports the Financial Times.
Last month, 1700 pigs in northern Penang state were slaughtered after the virus was discovered following random blood tests, says the paper.
