Pig prices slump
SPOT prices for pigs have slumped. The Scotsman says this is possibly because of the Malton Bacon Factory reducing its pre-Easter purchasing by 20% and other buyers suddenly being faced with more pigs to choose from.
The value of porkers has fallen 5p/kg to around 98p and baconers by 8p-10p to 83p-85p despite the fact the European Commission adjusted contact price edged up by 1.1p to 99.63p.
