Plea for GM research to continue
THE head of scientific liaison at the Scottish Crops Research Institute has made a plea for research on genetically modified (GM) crops to be allowed to go ahead.
Bill Macfarlane-Smith, who is involved in a three-year government-commissioned research project, said GMs could lead to fewer chemicals on crops.
He also said GM crops could provide disease-resistant crop varieties which could help feed more people.
